It's all kicking off #2

Due to last Saturday’s catastrophic start to Bath City’s season, followed by me being too ill to travel on Tuesday, I felt this weekend was the real start of the football season.

The season opener against Bishop’s Stortford was superb – a 2-0 win for the City :o)

It’s a pity the age old rule that whenever Bath City win, Leeds United don’t, seems to remain. My team from the north lost 2-0 at home. Shame.

Going down a Storm

Notice any downtime or strange-goings-on on my blog the last day? I’ve changed site hosts (Storm Internet). Hopefully all the files, folders, etc have migrated across to the new server; but if you do notice anything wrong, please let me know.

Staying at home isn't all bad

No football

For the first time in almost 18 months, I am missing a Bath City match – something I am gutted about.

I was intending to travel to Maidenhead this evening, but had to cancel due to picking up a virus. Typical – I’m fit and healthy all summer (when there is no football), but as soon as footy starts again, I get ill twice in a matter of weeks.

It’s not all bad. I’ll be missing Bath City, but Leeds are on Sky tonight, so I’ll have to be an armchair fan for a one off occasion.

The worst possible start

It's all kicking off

After a long crap summer, football is finally back this afternoon. Friendlies may be fun, but you can’t beat the real, competitive action.

Leeds have already played their first game of the season, beating Scunthorpe 2-1. Due to the early kick off, they lead the League One table (for a few hours at least). Hopefully it’ll be the first of many times this season that I can sing “We are top of the league, I said we are top of the league!”

As soon as I have finished writing this blog, I will be leaving the warmth of my flat for the rain outside – walking down to Twerton Park to watch Bath City in their first game of the season. Naturally, I am hoping for The Romans to follow on in the success of The Mighty Whites; although it is rare that both my teams, Bath City and Leeds United, win in the same afternoon.

Predictions for the season:
Leeds United – League One Champions
Bath City – To finish in the play offs. Whether they win them or not, I wouldn’t want to guess.
Manchester United – going down with Hull City :o)

X-Files Movie: I Want To Believe

Disappointing

Basically, a very average extended episode that could easily have been from the TV series. In fact, had they cut out all the stupid sub-plots, the main story would easily have fitted into a 45 minute slot.

I know the writers wanted to make a movie not based upon the whole mythology; but there were so many great ‘non-alien episodes’ in the series, that surely the film could have been written along those lines. Eugene Victor Tooms on the big screen would have been excellent - and very, very scary!

Anyway - what’s the point Mulder and Scully bothering? According to the TV series, we’re going to be invaded and killed by aliens in 2012.

Eaten alive

The weather finally seems to have cooled down to a habitable temperature, which pleases me immensely. Not only can I go about my daily life without burning in the intense heat, but I can go to sleep, safe in the knowledge that I won’t be fed upon...

Sunday night. I’m lying in bed. Hot. Very hot. Then I hear a high pitched buzzing. A mosquito. I wasn’t willing to ignore it and go to sleep. If I did, I may as well garnish my body with relish and write ‘Bon appetite’ on my face. Besides which, I didn’t really want to risk catching malaria – a disease increasingly common amongst African football players. I had to get up and deal with it.

I turned the light on, but couldn’t find the little bugger anywhere. Then, from behind the door, the carnivorous insect flew straight towards me. Armed with a can of fly killer, I sprayed it. It was no more. I went back to bed. Moments later, as if from a horror film, it came back - this time, within touching distance of my face. I trapped it in the corner and unleashed half a can of Raid Insect Killer onto it. It lay dying on my bedside table buzzing around. That's when it got crushed.

Asta la vista, baby! MwaHaHaHa!

Sad news
